Idia is exhausted.

Between everything at STYX HQ, the emotional roller coaster of Overblotting, facing his trauma, losing his brother again, repairing said brother, and having to show off his gaming skills in front of a bunch of normies, Idia is at critical HP and stamina. He wants to sleep for a year. At least things at NRC have quieted down (he thinks, he doesn't dare hope). With his parents forbidding him from returning to the Isle of Woe for a while, maybe he has time to catch up on his dailies while he recovers. That's worth staying awake for, right?

Except he gets a secure email from HQ, formal header graphic and all, while lounging in bed. The subject line has him choking on his energy drink, sitting up abruptly as he sputters and coughs.

URGENT: Project ARTEMIS - Re-Allocation of Observation Protocol Resources

So they're changing how he's supposed to look over his assigned subject? Ugh. Isn't video monitoring sufficient? Everyone in Ignihyde is an introverted gremlin like him, it's not like they have too much face to face time. He can make in-person observations in the dorm common room anyway! Grimacing, he continues reading the body of the message.

Subject HU-14201815A, Ignihyde 3rd year "R.H." has been misidentified.

Actual subject assigned to Savanaclaw dorm for 1st year. During that time contact was lost. Contact re-established during most recent Phantom Incident, subject correctly identified among infiltrating party. Soul readings significantly altered from initial baseline. According to uniform, correct subject is part of Pomefiore dorm.

Subject HU-14201815A tag reassigned to Pomefiore 3rd year: HUNT, ROOK.
Subject to be brought into STYX HQ for phase 2 evaluations.
Monitoring by Shroud, Idia to be maintained through pickup, ETA TBD.

Idia's eyes nearly bulge, fixed on that name in caps.

He yanks his pillow over his face and screams into it until his throat hurts. This is his parents' real punishment for what he did at STYX, isn't it?! Making him watch over Rook Freaking Hunt! This can't be real, Mama must be trolling him to teach him a lesson! Not the loudest, most relentlessly positive, most insanely upbeat member of the NRC Extrovert Trio!

But not long after, he's on a leave of absence from school, heading back to STYX for two to three weeks. All through the briefing, he's expecting there to be some word that he's back to his original assignment. Nobody comments on him sweating and pale through the hour plus of talking and presentations on holoscreens. Even when a datapad is put into his hands and he's sent to the observation room, he's still hoping. For once, maybe fate will be kind. Taking a deep breath, he presses the button to open the door....

[It hit him hard and fast, and Gaku may have been a little distressed about the whole thing because getting severely ill in a foreign country is unbelievably ridiculous. Of course, he seemed to be in good health before the trip, so how was he to know he's need an emergency appendectomy while filming a travel show in America? At least he had a capable surgeon and capable staff to get him taken to a quiet hospital to recover.

He wakes up from the surgery slowly, groggy and uncertain as to why the room looks like a huge blob. The blob moves, then resolves, and he realizes it's someone leaning over him, holding a rectangular object. He imagines it's his medical chart. Blinking to clear his head, he looks at the white-coated figure with a smile that's slightly sleepy, but no less charming than usual.]

Good... afternoon.

[Oh god. English. He can do this.]

It's only taken a few weeks to settle into a routine. Despite the stifling heat and frequent storms keeping them trapped inside more often than not, Akira and Yusuke haven't had too much difficulty sharing the space of Leblanc's attic. Splitting chores means things are done more quickly and efficiently, which makes Soujiro happy, and Yusuke's politeness has somewhat endeared him to the gruff man. So in the end, having not one but two teenagers living there hasn't caused any problems.

Well, except for the first week or two, when Akira kept hovering while Yusuke painted. At first, Yusuke forgot that Akira was his roommate in the real world and his leader in the Metaverse, snapping for the other boy to leave him be in a frosty tone to rival a blast of Bufu magic. Akira's genuine interest and respectful silence eventually won him over, and though Yusuke still feels odd with an audience, he maintains his focus under his roommate's scrutiny.

One Sunday afternoon, Yusuke sets his paintbrush down and mops his brow, taking a deep breath. "It's quite stifling in here today. I require some cool water. Would you like some as well, Akira?" He's already getting up and heading for the steps.

BREAKTIME FOR A RECIPE!!!

Apple BBQ Meatballs

5 lbs. ground turkey
5 lbs. meatloaf mix
25 oz. jar chunky applesauce (drain if too watery)
3 oz. prepared white horseradish
Original Mrs. Dash to taste
Worcestershire sauce to taste
Dash of A-1
Salt
8 beaten eggs
5 lbs. jar Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce
28 oz. jar plain apple butter

Mix all ingredients except meats, BBQ sauce, and apple butter. Knead in meat. Form into balls, bake in roasting pan at 400 degrees for 30 min. Turn over meatballs, bake 15-30 min. more or until brown all the way through. Remove from excess fat runoff into clean dish to set and cool slightly. Mix BBQ sauce and apple butter, pour over meatballs and turn carefully to coat.

Life after SEALED was quietly dull. Well, technically the surviving members were still part of the special team, but they were all on leave to recover from the fight with The End. Sho had been withdrawn and quiet, his aura of malaise getting to everyone around him. He barely cracked a smile at Agito's attempts to cheer him up. Seeing his best friend so down was seriously bumming the teleporter out.

Sho had turned down the idea of a road trip and Agito felt restless with everybody in such a weird mood, so he struck out on his own. He bribed one of the transport crew for a sleek electric car, packed some stuff he'd probably need, and for the first time in ages put his license to good use and drove out of New York City. Teleporting everywhere was second nature to him, but it was nice to see the scenery without the rippling purple blur of his power distorting everything. Upstate New York was really pretty this time of year, and the further outside the city he drove, the less devastation he could see from The End's attacks.

Stopping at one point for lunch, Agito decided to take a walk around a lake he'd spotted off the road. Shouldering his backpack, he disappeared into the woods surrounding the water, enjoying the crunch of old leaves and pine needles under his boots. He liked being around people but it was a nice change to be the only one around in such a pretty place. Teleporting himself up onto a tall, flat boulder by the water's edge, he sat down on the warm stone and dug in his bag for his food.

Nothing could ruin this peace and quiet, right?

Though they were long overdue for a difficult talk, Soma continued to hesitate and avoid anything that would leave him alone with Ken for too long. He felt awkward around his lover, still unable to shake the feeling that he'd failed Ken by allowing him to remain in Kritiker's custody for even that short time. Hell, letting Ken be captured at all made him a failure as a sire. He could've lost his precious fledgling forever.

It was only Aya's quietly scolding looks and then Aluraune's whimpers of concern that led him to knock almost timidly on Ken's door, dread tight in his belly. If he only succeeded in making things worse he'd never forgive himself.

Rei had needed to stay late for practice with the butterfly. Of course the others were gone now but he didn't mind being on his own. He was caught up with his homework so he didn't need to rush home like Nagisa did to prepare for the test tomorrow. Not only that but he wanted to impress the others with his improvement. Sometimes he was convinced they didn't really mean what they said even if he knew they did.

Walking into the locker room, he toweled at his hair, the rest of him mostly dried off after the pool. He would need to shower a bit but he wanted to go grab another towel first.

What he didn't expect to see was someone else already there. A second year who he'd seen around. His muscles were so well defined and he was just beautiful. Rei had quietly admired him from afar without going up to him because well...he was a senpai and he had no connection to him. He'd never expected to run into him here. Like this.

So, he stared without meaning to. It was just the way he moved, the fluidity...

To get close to a pretty young man with silver hair and prevent him from leaving Germany. Really such a task should not have been so complicated but it had taken him a full day just to locate said young man. Louise hated to take a mission from the Church but had been distracted by how pretty this Soma was.

The hotel he'd finally found him in was not up to his standards so he decided it was best to flush him out. Buying off the other guests to leave early had been rather easy. After that all he'd needed to do was purchase the location and inform people that he was going to be renovating the hotel into something more suitable. Naturally this meant investigating his investment and stopping by the room where Soma was.

Knocking on the door, he put on the most tired expression, the most innocent face. Really, it was entirely believable. Louise was tired from lack of sleep and did have the most pure intentions for this initial meeting. All he wanted to do was move the boy to another location. Namely, his manor.

It would be suitable and it would fulfill the requirement of the mission to keep Soma in Germany for a little longer.

Something wasn't right.

How long had it been? Days? Weeks? Years? Something was very much off for Sha Gojyo.

A tall, redheaded man with burning scarlet eyes slowly sat up in a flat bed that was unfamiliar to him. Nothing in the room seemed familiar to him, and his first instinct was to search his pocket for a cigarette, his crutch for shit like this. As he rummaged through his pockets, his thin red brows furrowed in disdain. Nothing. Empty. Completely empty.

"Fuck..." he muttered as he angrily removed his hand from the sadly empty pocket. Oh well, maybe he'd find some eventually. That wasn't even the most important thing right now anyways, but importance varied for the redhead. Nicotine was practically essential for him to get through the day along with a decent amount of alcohol and sex. Gojyo was a clear cut example of poor life choices and addictions.

He should have realized that there was something wrong immediately when he woke up. There was no memory of what happened the night before, if it was even a night before. The concept of time that had passed was also fuzzy for the redhead, which was somewhat troublesome. With a first look around the unfamiliar room, he knew that something was off, namely the fact that it seemed he was alone. Hakkai, Goku and Sanzo... They were all gone, or at least not in this room with him. Where they hell were they?

With a frustrated sigh, Gojyo stood up off the bed and looked around the room. It seemed quaint, small but definitely somewhat nicer than some of the inns he encountered during his travels with the others. That's when he spotted a table with two cigarettes and two matches. Only two? At least it was better than none, and maybe his pack was somewhere around the room. With a sigh of relief, the redhead placed the cigarette between his lips and lit it up with the match skillfully.

One drag, ah, that was it. That made him feel much better, relaxed and the constant headache from lack of nicotine would eventually cease and he could focus on the matter at hand again.

But something caught his eye. It was another bed across from the small table, and it looked like someone was tucked into the covers and hidden from his view. A roommate, huh? He wondered briefly if it was one of his companions, and hopefully it was. It would make breaking out of wherever the hell this place a lot easier. Without a moment of hesitation, Gojyo moved swiftly over to the bed, the cigarette still tucked between his lips carefully as he approached the other bed.

"Yo, you know where the hell we are-" he proceeded to interrogate whom he thought was going to be his friend in the bed, but instead a white haired, beautiful man (or possibly woman, Gojyo wasn't completely certain) was fast asleep in the bed. Gojyo's eyes widened and he took a few steps back due to seeing a stranger instead of a companion. Who the hell was this guy anyways?

This day couldn't get any worse, could it?

At first he didn't know whether it was better to just wake the guy up and get some answers out of him, or if it would be better to try to figure out a way out by himself and leave this guy to fend for himself. He could have been the enemy for all Gojyo knew. Gojyo looked over him again to see if he could recognize the face, but nothing was coming to him. It's not like he remembered much anyways from before he winded up in this place. It was possible that this stranger was stuck in the same situation as well. It didn't look like the guy was much anyways.

But he was beautiful, Gojyo had to admit to that.

Whatever, he needed answers more than sex right now (oddly enough) and he grabbed hold of the sleeping stranger's shoulder firmly. There was a strange tingling sensation that was starting to buzz in his head, but he ignored it for now. It wasn't something Gojyo needed to concern himself with for now.

"Hey, man, wake the hell up!" he yelled abruptly as he shook the man's shoulder. "Shit, c'mon!"

Currently Gojyo was unsure whether or not it was a good thing that another person was in this strange room with him, but hopefully once the guy woke up, he'd figure that out for himself.

Even a day out from the Gurak continent, fatigue still weighed heavily on the entire group. Yurick was all too glad to trade the smell of fire and metal for that of the ocean and wind. He wasn't sure he could tolerate the singed odor of his own magic at the moment.

He leaned on the bulwark, heedless of the spray clinging to his hair and face. It was as natural as breathing to him, the rhythm of the sea. It would forever remind him of his father, who now rested in a calm, certain place in his heart. He drew the dagger from his belt, contemplating the bright flash of steel in the late day sun. His father had used it to defend what was precious to him, and now Yurick would do the same.
